SPECTRA has dedicated its resources to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) projects which benefit health and dignity and living standards of rural and marginalized people who live throughout Rajasthan. The organisation believes that sustainable community development requires safe water access and proper sanitation systems and hygiene education to support public health.
The organization has carried out multiple community-based WASH projects which aim to raise sanitation awareness and change hygiene habits and provide safe drinking water and menstrual hygiene education and water conservation methods and community involvement. The organisation has partnered with rural women and adolescent girls and school children and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and ASHA workers and Anganwadi workers and teachers and village institutions to promote healthy hygiene and sanitation practices in underserved areas.
The Total Sanitation and Swajaldhara Programme was launched by SPECTRA in Alwar district to establish safe drinking water systems and enhance sanitation facilities and educate people about the relationship between water and sanitation and hygiene and health. The programme included community mobilisation activities and awareness camps and baseline surveys and hygiene education activities and behaviour change communication campaigns which encouraged rural communities to adopt improved sanitation and hygiene practices.
The organization has conducted school-based WASH programs in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) schools through the Integrated Livelihood Development Program (ILDP). The programs aimed to enhance WASH facilities while teaching students about handwashing and menstrual hygiene and personal hygiene and developing procedures to maintain school sanitation facilities. The activities involved active participation from teachers and School Management Committees (SMCs) and support staff and students.
SPECTRA has advanced its mission to establish Integrated Water Resource Management through its combined water resources management programs which include Integrated Water Resource Management programs.
