Implemented by: SPECTRA Organisation (Society for Public Education, Cultural Training & Rural Action)
SPECTRA Organisation implemented a community and school-based behaviour change initiative to promote gender-equitable attitudes, empathy, respect, non-violence, and positive masculinity among boys aged 7–11 years. The programme was designed to address gender stereotypes during early childhood by creating safe and inclusive learning environments where children develop values of equality, mutual respect, and responsible behaviour.
The initiative adopted a holistic approach by engaging boys, girls, parents, teachers, School Management Committees (SMCs), and community leaders through interactive classroom sessions, life skills education, storytelling, role plays, sports, and community awareness activities. Teacher capacity-building programmes and regular parent engagement sessions strengthened the reinforcement of gender-sensitive values both at school and at home.
The programme emphasized experiential learning, peer interaction, and community participation to encourage behavioural change. A comprehensive monitoring system, including baseline and endline assessments, classroom observations, and community feedback, was used to measure progress and improve programme quality.
The initiative contributed to increased empathy, respectful behaviour, and gender-sensitive attitudes among participating children while strengthening the capacity of schools and communities to create safe, inclusive, and equitable environments. Through this model, SPECTRA demonstrated its commitment to nurturing responsible young citizens who value equality, dignity, and non-violence, thereby contributing to stronger families, inclusive schools, and resilient communities.
